*No one likes them- thy take up too much room

*Poor people lived in the cities- government encouraged them to move

*Thought it would be nice to own land- but extremely hard life

*Government made them move there

Loggers:

*Came in 1960s

*Brazil exported $5 billion worth of wood in 2004

*Cut down trees to make furniture, paper, and other products

*Clear cutting- when they cut down all the trees in an area and then move to a new patch

*Creates a lot of jobs and $$/ helps Brazil pay off debts and help its citizens

* Native Amazonians

*Have lived in the Rainforest for 12,000 years

*Use the land- do not destroy it- there is no long-term damage

*hunt, fish and grow crops-traditional way of life

*some are learning how to speak Portuguese/ are working with the government/ want to become legal owners of land

*Newcomers bring diseases and ruin their homes from land use

*People are moving in and impending on the way they are living their lives, hurting their culture

Environmentalists

*study the earth, save the environment and make it better for the future

*want to protect the land from those who want to harm it.

*learning about new species of plants and animals, cure diseases, etc.

*they want to help to pass laws to protect the rainforest.
