Should the U.S. continue to use capital punishment? I believe the U.S. should continue to use capital punishment. Although crime in general has fallen through out the country, it doesn’t seem so when you turn on your television and see the amount of crime reported by your local and national news. I believe capital punishment should be administered if it fits the crime. There are too many instances of horrific crimes being committed in this country and the punishment the criminal receives doesn’t fit the crime. The criminal sits in prison with 3 square meals a day, a roof over their heads, continuing education, medical benefits and their life. If a person takes away the basic right of life, that person should not be afforded the basic rights of life. To many times criminals get caught for crimes committed, get sent to jail and are released due to technicalities overlooked in their case. They get out and continue to kill. If capital punishment is enforced where life is taken then the mistakes will not be repeated. I think capital punishment brings closure to families that have lost loved ones. Capital punishment can also be used as a tool to help prosecutors solve cases and give the criminals the option of pleas deals that offer life sentences with out parole. We sit here and debate the issue of capital punishment, but what about the victims? How they died at the hands of their killers. People may not ever agree on this as a whole but we have laws that the people of this country need to obey and adhere to. When we have people out here that do not have an ounce of remorse for their actions for the violence they commit, then they should not have the same basic rights. This is the strictest form of punishment for someone who takes life away. If we feel that life is so sacred we should uphold capital punishment to the fullest. That is the cry that people yell out that opposes capital punishment. Maybe if we were to clean up our legal system and shore...
