Napoleon Exiled to St. Helena, 1815

1. Why was Napoleon forced to give up his throne on April 14, 1814? 
He forced to give up his throne due to a lack of support form his military marshals.

2. What island was Napoleon originally sent to in the Mediterranean? How long did he stay on the island until he escaped? 
He was exiled to Elba where he stayed for eleven months.

3. Why was Napoleon sent to the remote island of St. Helena in 1815? Where is St. Helena? 
They didn’t want to take any chances on Napoleon returning again.

4. Describe Napoleon’s living conditions on St. Helena, especially after having unimaginable wealth as the Emperor of France? 
There was no furniture, no curtains, and his one room had to serve as a dining, study, sitting, and dressing room. His food is brought to him form distances as if he were a criminal.

5. What does Napoleon think of the food that is served to him? 
He feels as if it is prison food and they were so bad that no one wanted to touch them.

6. What does Napoleon wish his enemies would have done to him instead of putting him on St. Helena? 
He stated that a few musket balls to his heart or head would have done the business.

7. What do you think Napoleon meant when he said, “I must either command or be silent”? 
He must either do something to get himself out of the situation or just stay and survive the harshness.

8. Did Napoleon deserve his exile on St. Helena, or should he have been treated with more respect since he was the former ruler of France, and a good part of Europe at one time? Explain! 
He deserved some of it and some he didn’t. I feel as if he deserved some of it because of all the damage he did. But on the flip side, I feel as if he did help them in certain ways that could’ve gained him more respect.
