Advertisement is a paid, non-personal, public communication about causes, goods and services, ideas, organizations, people, and places, through means such as direct mail,  print, telephone, radio, television, and internet. Advertisements are public notices designed to inform and motivate. The objective of advertisement is to change the thinking pattern or buying behavior of the recipient, so that the customers are persuaded to take the action desired by the advertiser. An advertisement is called a commercial when it is aired on radio or television.

One of the advertisements that remained in my mind is Wrigley’s Extra Gum newest commercial which has just been released this year. The commercial which is titled “The Story of Sarah and Juan” follows two young lovers throughout their relationship, right from the very first meeting. Each step of the way as we watch their relationship develop, the couple marks their special moments by enjoying a piece of Extra Gum, somehow Sarah always has a supply of Extra Gum at every single important moment in their lives and we see Juan drawing on the wrappers after each milestone.

As with earlier entries in the “Give Extra, Get Extra” campaign like the father-daughter commercial that scored 23 million views in 2013, this one is all about positioning the product at key moments of intimacy and personal development so as to avoid the too-hard sell.

Although I did not purchase Wrigley’s Extra Gum right after watching the commercial, the commercial still runs in my mind every time I went to the grocery store and saw loads of Wrigley’s Extra Gum on the shelves. After some...
