When thinking of Jeep, a very profitable company, it is hard to imagine what their database looks like. They must have tons of information that they store about their customers. Because purchasing a vehicle is a huge purchase, and involves a lot of factors, there is probably a lot of information stored. It’s a big purchase decision that most people make once every few years. Of course, Jeep wants to make sure it is staying on top of those customers who’ve bought Jeeps before, or those who may want to purchase their first Jeep, so they have to market to the right people in the appropriate way. Using databases and data mining can really help them with this process.

Jeep should keep many different types of information in their database. The basics, such as name address, telephone number, age, gender, education and income are all necessary. Interests and preferences are important as well. Frequency of purchases, amount of spending, type of spending, inquiries and referrals, customer complaints and resolutions, customer satisfaction data, loyalty information and customization would also be helpful in a database. This information is really important to the database for many reasons, and even though it seems like a lot of information it will really help Jeep in the future.

Being able to keep track of which vehicles customers are requesting internet quotes on is a good marketing pivot. Customer requests imply the customer likes the vehicle. Maybe 5 years down the road when Jeep comes out with a new model, that is very similar to a 2010 model, they could contact those who liked the 2010 model to market to them. Knowing how satisfied a customer is helps to determine whether or not they are valuable or a waste of time. Customers in the database who only make under $15,000 a year are probably not going to be looking at buying a brand new Jeep so they may need to be targeted with ads for certified used Jeeps.
