Third world countries are often described as “developing” while the First world or the industrialized nations are often “developed”. Most developing countries face national challenges such as poverty. Poverty is defined in Investopedia as “a state or condition in which a person or a community lacks the financial resources and essentials to enjoy a minimum standard of life and well-being that’s considered acceptable in the society”. In the past only a small elite lived a life without poverty. Since the beginning of industrialization – and as a consequence of this, economic growth – the share of people living in poverty started shrinking and has kept on falling ever since. But as a consequence of falling poverty, the health of the population improved dramatically over the last two centuries, and the population started to grow.
