INCLUSION PAPER:

How can the ILFE be established in the Philippines?

Inclusive Learning-Friendly Environment gives importance to two terms—“Inclusive” and “Child-Centered”. In order to create an education that is both inclusive and child friendly, it will depend on the teacher’s practices and materials. Philippines have many groups with varying religions, socioeconomic status, backgrounds, and many more, which means that the teachers should accommodate them by changing its methods and materials. In the UNESCO’S Toolkit for Creating Inclusive Learning-Friendly Environment, there are suggested methods and materials that a teacher can use. However, if ever it will be used in the country, it should take account of the stakeholders and students’ backgrounds, the environment and the resources available.

In the Philippines, there are different types of schools that will suit different areas may it be in isolated, rural, or urban settings. In some isolated communities, multi-grade education is more useful. This kind of system is not new here in the country because DepEd still wants to emphasize the Education for All campaign, wherein multi-grade education will help those students in isolated and financially challenged communities. According to Asia Scientist (2012), there’s one pressing issue in their educational system in those communities, which is the students’ locations. They come from different isolated places, but nonetheless, they are still willing to attend school. There are two solutions that could aid the issue, either they put up schools near where they are or they put up one school, wherein all of the students will go. Those solutions sounds appealing however because of the communities’ lack of funds, they couldn’t build up rooms/buildings.
