Ethical Issues

A great amount of business-related ethical issues were discussed in the video. The first business-related ethical issue discussed in the video deals with a Latino woman being sexually harassed by the supervisor of the plant. The woman was absolutely terrified to go through the HR process of filing a sexual harassment claim because she thinks it will stir up more conflict between her and her boss. Due to this fact, she contacts Chaplin Services to help her overcome this issue. Although Chaplin services/agencies strive to share the word of Christ, and talk freely about faith, they provide many other services to the community. Their core values stand by living good and living right. Tyson addressed this issue of sexual harassment through the Chaplin services that they work through. Another business-related ethical issue discussed in the video was concerned with GMOs in the food production industry that Tyson foods produce and handle. The ethical dilemma that was raised was on the theological stance that Tyson has on food and food production. Others had raised the question on whether or not there was a safer and healthier way of producing the food due to GMOs. The company’s position on GMOs was that to a degree all grains have been modified. Two seeds are put together and the best one is picked out. What this is meant to say is that Tyson Company supports the incorporation of GMOs in food production because they see it as a fundamental in the overall food chain and supply. Also, Tyson is in support of GMOs because of the opportunity to increase production to feed the ever growing population increase and the ever growing economic increase. Aside from this, the Tyson family agreed that the use of GMOs needs to be questioned, studied, and assessed.
