Defining the Problem

This law was signed into effect on August 8, 2005. This policy seeks to provide energy efficiency; renewable energy; oil and gas; coal; Indian energy; nuclear matters and security; vehicles and motor fuels, including ethanol; hydrogen; electricity; energy tax incentives; hydropower and geothermal energy; and climate change technology (Congress.gov 2015)

Biblical guidelines and principles: Effective research and development on energy processes directly affects the national security of the United States. Alternative ways to energy lessens our dependence on foreign oil and protects are inalienable rights as Americans (Fisher, 2013). The bible also states “ Do not pollute the lands that you live in” in Numbers 35:33 (Coogan, 2011). As Christians, we should do all we can to protect our lands through clean energy resources.

Constitutional guidelines for federal and state involvement: The Framers of our Constitution did not envision the abundant technology available these days and the natural resources it takes to sustain this technology. The constitution does not specifically mention anything on the subject on energy, but since energy policy affects the security of the United States, this policy is supported by the constitution. The Preamble of the constitution states that it will “ provide for the common defense and promote the general welfare”.

Political feasibility: The current administration’s energy program calls for the expansion of offshore drilling to increase domestic energy supply and wider use of clean coal technology( Murphy, 2008). This would create more jobs for many Americans and help stimulate the economy. Though the plan seems it would lead to a change in our country’s dependence on foreign energy, it is overly ambitious to see any change anytime soon.
