a. BACKGROUND

i. Museum Planning and Design

A museum is a building, space, or institution devoted to the acquisition, conservation, study, exhibition and educational interpretation of objects having scientific, historical, or artistic value. It collects and care objects and makes them available for viewing- through permanent or temporary exhibits. Museums are said to ‘bring the past to life’ and are fantastic representations of the different periods of our cultural history. Many types of museums exist such as:

Aquarium Anthropology Botanic Garden

Arts Children’s Cultural

Hall of Fame Historic House/Site History

Military National History Planetarium

Presidential Lib. Science&Tech Zoo

Museum Planning involves the planning of the actual mission of the museum along with planning the space that the collection will be housed in. It varies according to what collection they house, but overall, they adhere to plan a space that is easily accessed by the public. A feasibility study, analysis of comparable facilities, and an interpretative plan are all developed as part of the museum planning process.

ii. Library Planning and Design

A library is building, room, etc., that hold collections of books, pamphlets, computer programs, etc. especially one arranged for easy location of desired materials. It is an organized collection of sources of information and similar resources, made accessible to a defined community for reference or borrowing. A library’s collection can include books, periodicals, newspapers, manuscripts, films, maps, prints, documents, microform, CDs, and other formats.

Libraries are expected to facilitate informal education of all people in the community and to enrich and further develop the subject areas in which individuals are formal education.
