As technology advances so does the way that we communicate, from cell phones, to computers, to any type of electronic messaging, every year communication changes.

As far as health communication technologies, this realm is getting more and more electronic in this day and age, just like everything. These electronic changes will assist in providing the best patient care while controlling costs, also improve patient-caregiver relations.

Some of the forms of electronic communications will be: Electronic Medical Records, which is an accurate and positive way for health care personnel to communicate information with one another without losing any of the credibility of that information, Telemedicine, which allows caregivers to treat patients who are at home or an alternate facility, which is needed in rural areas, Videophone, which is initiated by a telephone and when both parties are positioned, the video camera is turned on.

On my job we started electronic medical records back in 2006 and at first I was a little apprehensive about starting a new system especially since I was very familiar with the old way, but once I was properly trained and started to use it everyday, it became like second nature. Our specific system is very helpful and eliminated a lot of paperwork and it is easily accessed. Health Communications Technology is changing the field of health care by allowing patients more freedom to view their medical records, these technologies allows patients to get in touch with their caregivers more easily and frequently and these technologies are also helpful with insurance matters. It can also be helpful from one doctor to another upon referrals. It will eliminate the volume of phone calls from one doctor to another because the records can be viewed on line and messages can be sent back and forth frequently.
