Communication and Collaboration Strategy

In a team environment it is not only imperative to know ones’ own personality type and learning style, but also to know the personality types and learning styles of fellow teammates. This will effectively enable you to have the best means of communication and continuity throughout the group.

A learning style is a specific means by which a person absorbs and retains information in the most efficient manner. Three learning styles will be addressed; bodily-kinesthetic, logical-mathematical, and musical. The aforementioned happen to be my highest scoring learning methods on the “Pathways to Learning” assessment worksheet. A person who is a bodily-kinesthetic learner learns the best by physically performing the action, unlike a visual-spatial person who can learn better by just looking at a drawing or schematic. This type of learning style would be desirable on a team if there are any physical models that need to be produced or any type of hands-on project. The logical-mathematical person is a superior pair with a person who possesses the bodily-kinesthetic trait. This intelligence will be capable of figuring out how specific items work and solve any problems that the bodily kinesthetic person may run into while creating a model for the team. On the other hand there is the musical learning style. The musical intelligence has a strong auditory component, making it have much in common with the verbal-linguistic style. This type of person may have difficulty finding a specific place in a team geared toward research or hands-on projects. It is more likely that they will retain what they hear in a lecture better than the rest of the teammates, and be able to reiterate or clarify any questions that may arise between other members of the team.
