STS40 Fieldtrip

Others believed that travelling is important in order for one to achieve a sense of fulfilment. Others also find travelling a means to escape from the daily stress they are experiencing from their jobs or from their studies. Most people find travelling a way to relax and enjoy.

Last February 12-13, 2011, the entire section of STS40 2:30-4:00pm class went on an educational fieldtrip to Bacolod City including me. At first, I must admit that I was never excited in trips outside Panay because I oftentimes think that if travel hours are quite longer, the joy and the fun will be far outweighed by the exhaustion and fatigue one will experience along the trip. Also, I have this great fear with bodies of water so the thought of going out somewhere and riding a “sea vessel” had really bothered me a lot. However, despite these facts, I saw myself standing at the Iloilo Port waiting for the departure of Weesam last February 12, 2011 at exactly 6 o’clock in the morning. Yes. I was there. I decided to join the trip thinking that maybe this might be different from the other trips I have had in the past. But, honestly, before setting my feet inside the fast craft, the notion that maybe I’m wrong---maybe it was better to be left behind---or “What if something bad happens along the way, what will I do?” had been repeating in my mind like a broken cd. I guess I just could not help that pessimistic part of me dominating my entire being during that very moment.

After almost an hour and a half travel in the sea, the group finally arrived at Bacolod City’s pier. It was a great relief on my part to finally sea “land”. Though I am not exaggerating here, but the fear that I felt in boarding that fast craft was so great that I resorted to sleeping during the whole duration of the trip.
