“A Good Man is Hard to Find” by Flannery O’Connor is a short story about a family about to go to Tennessee, but the trip ends up deadly. The purpose or motive in this short story is to show that some people no matter how good things are going there can always be something to ruin it. In this case the trip was going good, the kids was going to see a house that has a secret panel to it. But they wreck and then they end up getting murdered by three men.

This short story is well written. There are many questions though. The author could have gave more information about the killer, as to why he was killing the family. The killer seemed to be killing them for his own satisfaction. The author is not one sided. He is just telling a story. The grandmother was trying her best to get out from being killed. Which she repeated multiple times, “You wouldn’t shoot a lady, would you?”

I absolutely loved this short story. It was very interesting to me. I liked that it was not what I was expecting. Everything took a turn for the worse. If I could ask the author to this piece anything, I would ask more about the killer. I would ask why he took the boys then the girls. I would ask why he didn’t just help the family, and not kill them. After reading this piece I realized that some people do not change, and sometimes the only thing that can make the family actually come together and show love for one another is when death occurs. Also, some people are more worried about themselves than anyone else, even their family.
