Introduction

K. M. Mammen Mappillai started Madras Rubber Factory “MRF” journey as a toy balloon manufacturing unit in Tiruvottiyur in Madras in 1946.

In 1949 the factory was making a variety of products, ranging from balloons and latex-cast squeaking toys to industrial gloves and contraceptives.

MRF first office was established at 334, Thambu Chetty Street, Chennai.

MRF began the manufacturing of tyres in the year 1961.

MRF Pvt. Ltd Company was converted to Public Company in 1961.

MRF became the first Indian company to export tyres to USA.

MRF scored a major breakthrough by being among the very first in India to manufacture and market nylon tyres.

In 1970, MRF opened its second plant at Kottayam.

MRF (Madras Rubber Factory Limited) is a private sector company and largest manufacturer of tyres in India with 27% market share in 2014. MRF as 6 facilities and more than 3000 strong dealer network in 180 location.

MRF had revenue of 13444.75 crore in 2013 and net income of 802.21 crore.

MRF exports tyres to 65 countries including America, Europe, Middle East, japan and the pacific region.

Some popular product of MRF are tyres, toys, sports goods, conveyor belt and paints & coatings.
