“The bad news is time flies. The good news is you’re the pilot.” This quote from Michael Altshuler embodies what many managers today struggle with every single day. The idea of managing your time wisely proves that many of us consider our time to be out of control. It is time to gain back that control through techniques covered in this research paper. To be as clear and concise as possible we are going to be narrowing down our research to the more specialized topic of prioritization. We will be exploring why this skill is important for mangers, how it impacts managerial performance, and how this skill can be best developed.

The importance of a manager prioritizing his or her time cannot be overstated. A manger that is not effective in this area cannot be expected to conduct their employees to be effective with their time.

Time management, instinctively prioritization, has many impacts on managerial performance. Effectively managing time enables managers to work more efficiently and do more to further the bottom-line objectives of their company. The use of a manager’s time is critical in order to carry out their many duties and responsibilities. All time management begins with planning. Planning for managers means thinking about what they want and how they are going to accomplish it; determining in advance what is to be done; and preparing for the future by making decisions now. In order to plan time effectively and efficiently; managers must evaluate their work load. Although not a difficult task, it takes time to reflect upon specific managerial duties and responsibilities. Managers who make time for this will save them time in the long run. Managers should begin all new projects, responsibilities, or tasks with a planning session. Effective managers ask themselves what tasks need to be done, when those tasks should be completed, who will be involved, who is delegated to specific tasks, how much time will each project require, what part of their duties and...
