Reform in Bioethics Research

There is no true answer that is right or wrong when it comes downs to ethics, since everyone has his or her own moral values and think and act according to it. However, bioethics even though derived from the same root word, underlies the fundamental message that every human lives are precious and important not just selective ones. In the article, “Social Class and Medical Decision-making: A Neglected Topic in Bioethics”, written by Betty Wolder Levin and Nina Glick Schiller, they proclaim that there needs to be more research focusing on social classes and their effects on the medical decision. They appeal to the emotion of the readers employing personal and detailed experiences and testimonials of medical decision making among the social classes which is mostly and simply divided by the wealth and income. As contrast to Levin and Schiller's method, the article, “Bioethics, health, and inequality” written by Giovanni Berlinguer adopts a top-down perspective to see the current issues in the field of medicine on more global and broader view. Using statical data and scholarly resources, Berlinguer argues that “Frontier and everyday bioethics deserve equal attentions”(Berlinguer, 55) and there must be more attentions yielded to everyday bioethics than now. Even though the two articles' main claims assert quiet different topics and problems, they came to the agreement that nowadays bioethicists' focus of researches has to be shifted from the view for the rich and frontier bioethics to the view for every social class and everyday.

Social classes is divided mostly and mainly by the wealth. The financial and economic problem not only interfere in a person's ability to receive the proper medical care when needed but also it can modify and affect the value of bioethics' of people.
