With the development of people’s living standard and quality, homelessness is still a severe and complicated issue. However, homelessness can also be divided into 2 types, temporary and repeated situation. The long-term situation of homelessness is called chronic homelessness, which is always accompanied with healthy problems (National Alliance to End Homelessness 2015, p.1). Though government and many organizations have launched many programs to solve chronic homelessness, it remains a critical issue in Australia.

Chronic homelessness can be caused by various factors. Housing crisis is one of the reasons (Minnery 2007). In today’s society, buying or renting a house is increasingly expensive, and people who do not own a stable job cannot afford the housing at all. As time goes by, they are likely to be the homeless without enough money to live. Besides, discordant family relationship may also result in chronic homelessness (Minnery 2007). People will not choose to live with family if they do not have a harmonious atmosphere at home. Thus, housing would be a problem for them and may lead to long-term homelessness eventually. Age cannot be ignored while considering the cause of chronic homeless (Minnery 2007). Teenagers without parents are more likely to be the chronically homeless people.

To deal with chronic homelessness, providing permanent and stable housing would be a crucial element (National Alliance to End Homelessness 2015, p.1), as housing is the most important problem for these chronically homeless individuals. In addition, it is also of great significance to supply these individuals with low-cost medical care. The homeless people usually have excessive drinking problem and eat unhealthily, as they are under a heavy stress all the time (Larimer 2009, p.1349). Therefore, public system should always check their healthy conditions physically and mentally.
