Slippery Slope by C. W. Nevius

After I read the article Slippery Slope by C.W. Nevius, it offers a perspective on cheating and on the kinds of people influencing children’s early understandings of cheating---parents, teachers, friends, famous role models, etc. Nowadays, this is common phenomenon in society. There are many kinds of people who have different attitude with cheating. Some parents believes that they encourage their children that cheating is good for their daughters and sons, but some teachers or profession educational scholars take an opposite side. I firmly believe that it should be deter students from cheating. Students have shown that giving them extra time doesn’t help and they need to study or do their homework by themselves. Between parents and teachers or professional educational scholars, they are have different ideas. As for me, I agree the teacher and professional scholar’s idea, because it should be to let students to know the important of independent. And just like experts in articles says, “Is to step back and give the student a little space. Let them try to work out their grades, their college, their life.” (page 308)

More and more parents have greatest ability to encourage their children cheating. Many of parents are in a madness to get kids into a good college or let them to get on A in test, they attempt to help their children by themselves. Dr. David Anderegg says, “The perception that the world is a terribly competitive place makes parents frantic. Working for your child is perceived as being a good parent and some slip over the line and cheat on the children’s behalf”.(page 302) Even they know if their children are diagnosed with a learning disability, they are by law given more time on tests. So they realized that if they could get a learning disability designation, their kids could take an extra hour or more on the test.
