Court Observation

I can make one very short blatant statement that will cover all future opinions that need to be made by me, domestic violence is nothing but overdramatic drama between people. On April 7, 2006 at the Maryland District Court I attended 2 domestic violence cases. I didn’t get to see a little bit of the beginning of the cases but lawyers are always helpful.

Case 1

In Room 302, I entered the building and started to listen to what was going on. The presiding judge was Stephan P. Johnson at 11:00 am, where it was a man versus a woman on charges of assault and burglary. The defense at this point was giving his side of what had happen. The plaintiff was in a relationship with the defendant and it was going on for quite some time now. Then they got into some kind of argument which leads them into a hostile situation. The defendant claim that he was the better man and got together with the plaintiff to talk things out but things went sour. When the defendant took the plaintiff home and stopped in front of the house. From there the plaintiff refused to get out of the defendant’s car so he tried to push her out of the car so he could go home. The defendant comes up to the door later to try and retrieve his cell phone out of her house. The plaintiff proceeded to talk through her door and refused to let him in. from there the defendant broke through the door and went and retrieved his cell phone from the plaintiff’s room. The judge quietly nodded to the lawyer and then proceeded to listen to the plaintiff’s story which was relatively the same only in the car the defendant was choking her to get out of the car. Also she has stated that the defendant tried to steal something else in the house while he broke the door and agreed to pay for the broken door. The judge at this point looked as though he was completely flushed out and gave the defense a chance with a rebuttal.
