Andrew Johnson | The United States to reunify or come together and continue plans for reconstruction. | In 1867 congress passed a reconstruction act that nulled all of Johnson’s progress. | Johnson removes Stanton from office, which later resulted in congress bringing about impeachment charges against Johnson. |

Radical Republicans | To ensure the south didn’t return to its pre-civil war days. | President Johnson’s plans interfered with their goal. | Congress passed various bills to counteract and alter the previous reconstruction policy, and due to the capacity of republicans in congress they were able to override Johnson’s decisions. |
