One Sample Hypothesis Testing

The group members in Team A will develop a research question regarding the Century National Bank data set and formulate a research hypothesis. The team will explain the conclusion of the hypothesis test of one population mean or population proportion. The first step involves formulating a numerical and verbal hypothesis statement in regard to the research issue selected. The team will move forward by using the five-step hypothesis test on data applying to the Century National Bank. The last step involves describing the results of the team’s test and providing an explanation of how the determinations from this hypothesis testing may be utilized to answer the research question. In addition, the team will include raw data tables and the results of the computations using graphical and tabular methods (University of Phoenix, Week Two Magterial, 2011).

Research Question

Collectively as a group, the team has decided to focus on the Century National Bank data set. This data set provides information regarding (1) customer balances, (2) automated teller machine (ATM) use, (3) how many customers have debit cards, (4) services provided, and (5) how many cities customers use the services in. The team has agreed to narrow the focus down to the frequency of ATM transactions and its relation to customer account balances. The research question developed is “Do bank customers who use the ATM system more than once a week have higher account balances than customers who average one or no ATM transactions per week?”

Numerical and Verbal Hypothesis Statement

The first step after developing the research question involves the development of a numerical and verbal hypothesis statement. Both a null hypothesis and an alternate hypothesis must be stated as one needs to be accepted and the other rejected. The point is to make an effort to reject the null hypothesis. If the team rejects the null hypothesis, the team is concluding that the alternate hypothesis...
