Summary America's Tsunami

In 2004 the worst Tsunami hit over 13 countries and killed more the 250 thousand people. It hit without warning and since most people were not prepared, that is why the number of casualties was so great. In the movie, the characters warn the people from going to the beach once the ground is shaking. Moving to higher ground and as far away from the ocean is the best way to be safe.

A team of the best scientist, geologist and oceanographers, charter a very expensive ship for seventeen days in order to understand what caused the tsunami. One researcher proposes that the Tsunami may have been caused by a massive landslide beneath the ocean. Although there is some evidence that it is true, his theory is proved wrong when they uncover an alien plant on the ocean floor which is more than ten years old. If a landslide had caused the tsunami then the alien plant would have been destroyed. The team next experiences a setback when one of its employees gets burnt by steam in his eyes and they have to sail closer to shore so a military chopper can airlift him to the hospital. They lose three valuable days but this does not deter their spirits. Upon returning to a site they had set their eyes on, they uncover a massive vertical wall. This helps them prove that a mega thrust earthquake, which lifted the land from below surface, was the source of the tsunami. The thrust is made of mud which makes it recent and not older than a few months. The same scenario may happen here in the USA since the Vancouver Seattle fault line has been identified as the next most likely to break. If this were to happen, Seattle and Vancouver would be totally destroyed. Since the strength of the previous Tsunami travelled around the world three times, a Tsunami closer to home would almost wipe out the populations closer to the ocean. People should be educated on what to do when the earth starts to shake and they should move away from the water to higher grounds.
