HISTORY

Abbott Company was founded in 1888 by Wallace C .Abbott. Abbott is global, broad-based health care company devoted to discovering new medicines, new technologies and new ways to manage health. Abbott, M.D begins producing his first pills called “dosimetric granules” from the active part of a medicinal plant known as “Alkaloid”, which it’s provided more accurate and effective dosing for his patients than other treatments available at that time. Abbot Strengthen its global competitive position with six significant strategic achievements: Ibis Biosciences, a provider of leading – edge technology in diagnostic testing and surveillance; Advanced Medical Optics, an established global leader in vision care; Wockhardt Limited, India’s leading local manufacturer of nutritional products; Visiogen, inc, leader in next-generation cataract technology ;Evalve, Inc, the global pharmaceutical business of the Solvay Group.

In 1990s the business was officially incorporated in Illinois as the Alkaloid Company. In 1910s the company opened its branches in New York, San Francisco, Seattle and Toronto, London, India.. Over the years the company changed its name to Abbott Laboratories to reflect the company’s growing research orientation and move to synthetic compounds. During 1920s a new manufacturing facility was set up in North Chicago; Illinois to serve the company’s growing research projects. During 1930s the anesthetic Nembutal was introduced which went on to become one of the company’s best known and longest-lived products. In 1940s Abbott became successful to become one of the five pioneers enlisted by the U.S. government to develop large-scale production of the new anti-infective penicillin. Over the years, Abbott has been recognized as the first pharmaceutical company to have a special laboratory for radiopharmaceuticals.
