Deforestation in the Amazon Rainforest

Excelsior College

Abstract

Everyone in the world uses the products trees produce but we rarely stop to think about the effects on not only the environment but also the animals that flourish there. Habitat loss contributes to loss of biodiversity and through time, even extinction. The Amazon Rainforest suffers from deforestation on a daily basis. Brazil and its neighboring countries plunder off the money generated but at what cost. The world is losing precious species, ones that cannot be replaced. I intend to bring light to a multitude of issues including, animal displacements, global warming concerns, flooding, possible climate changes, soil degradation, economical issues, forestry law, and sustainable forestry. With these categories of deforestation in the Amazonian Rainforest, we hope to see the challenges faced on both local and global levels.

Deforestation in the Amazon Rainforest

If there were ever such a thing as a seven wonders of space, the earth would undeniably be at the top of this list. With the abundance of plants and animals, the world might even have a magical sense of total fiction. But the reality is that the world is authentic, and the biodiversity that resides on it is truly and utterly real. The truth is, this planet we call earth is dying. Earth has prevailed through five previous mass extinction events but could it survive a 6th? Unlike the previous five events, this theorized event is shocking because humans are considered the number one culprit. Prior extinction incidents were caused by events such as volcanic eruptions, meteor strikes, and climate changes while the 6th would go down in history as results of over hunting, depletion of natural resources, industrialization, and finally deforestation. The devastating destruction of forests is causing loss of habitats and mass amounts of death among plants and animals. The Amazon rainforest is the largest and...
