EMERGENCIE OF A LOSS OF CONSCIOUSNESS PATIENT

CHARACTERS

Character #1: Doctor (Leader)

* Alerts other staff leaders for help

* Start by giving orders

* Insure that ever member knows their position

* Remain calm while under pressure

* Keep the situation under control

* Every 2 minutes take pulse

Character #2: Nurse

* Have the AED

* Convey the seen

* Check the pulse

* Make sure the patient is lying flat on his/her back

* Begin CPR

Character #3: Medical Assistance

* Have a log book to summarize what events have occurred before, during & after the incident

* Switch positions with the Nurse and begin CPR

* Provide breath masks

Character # 4: Receptionist

* Immediately call 911

* Should recognize if team members 2&3 need help

* Have the log book to provide the EMA with a summary of the event

* Show the EMA where the patient is located

Character #5: Security Guard

* Keep the other patients under control & calm

SETTING & TIME

On a breezy, bright sunny Wednesday afternoon, in the Pitts Clinical Care Office, on the South part of Nashville, TN, there was a Code Blue.

ACT I

Narrator: Just like any other typical day, 15 year old Ronald King, had a regular appointment at the Pitts Clinic for a regular checkup, but then Ronald suddenly clasped onto the marble concrete floor.

Doctor Pitts: (Shouting) “Code Blue!”, “Quick Nurse Jen grab the AED, and Medical Assistance Nancy and follow me, now!”

Narrator: (Entering in the receptionist area, Doctor Pitts takes the AED from Nurse Nancy and gives it to MA Nancy)

Doctor Pitts: Nurse Jen, you begin with CPR immediately, and MA Nancy hook up the AED.”

Nurse Jen: “Begin with CPR, got it.” (Immediately runs over to Ronald, turns him over on his back, check his pulse, he doesn’t have one, so she begins CPR)
