1. How does the vast movement of food from one nation to another benefit or potentially harm developing nations? Are there benefits of importing food to developed or wealthy nations?

The vast movement of foods from one nation to another nation benefits greatly to the nation that cannot produce those foods. It allows countries to have access to foods in which wouldn’t have been accessible to them in the first place. Therefore other countries can benefit from the nutrition in which certain fruits, vegetable, or grains produce.

There are many benefits from importing food to develop or wealthy nations. First importing foods to those nations provides a potential for vendors to make money in order for the to vendors to keep growing or supplying the wealthier nations or developed nation with food items in which would be difficult for a certain nation to grow. Both nations benefit. The wealthy nations are provided with items in exchange for goods for a fee. The nation is growing the product can make money off the goods sold. Doing this makes it possible for the employees to be able to provide for their families. This helps the economy grow (EconomyWatch, 2010).

2. There is an “eat local” initiative developing throughout the United States and Europe. What are the benefits to buying fresh, local foods? Are there drawbacks? Do you buy local?

The “eat locally” initiative that is developed here in my hometown, Saint Paul Minnesota, is called farmers market. One of the main benefits that we have by eating fresh foods are that out fresh foods are that indeed fresh. We don’t have to worry about our fruits or vegetables being compromised by having them subjected to harsh chemicals that supposedly keep the items fresh for traveling. We are also helping the farmers make a profit by buying from them and helping them be able to provide food for their family as well and keep their business growing as well.
