Subject: Managerial roles in the face of a merger
As the deadline approaches for the merger with EnviroTech, I want to take the opportunity to remind you as managers the important role each of you have in making this a successful and productive transition. There are plenty of rumors floating around about job cuts and employee moral seems low. As frontline supervisors, everything you do is being scrutinized. The future success of InterClean will only happen if each of you realizes the impact that you can have upon the productivity of the employees. Promote a positive work environment by meeting with your teams, gathering questions and addressing their concerns using an upbeat and positive attitude. Employees are looking to each of you as leaders to make the right decisions and remain calm. Remember, “Appropriate leadership helps create a satisfying work environment conducive to high productivity” (Kumar Shelar, 2007).
“When it comes to managing people, all managers must be concerned to some degree with the following five activities: staffing, retention, development, adjustment, and managing change” (Cascio, 2005). While our sales team currently excels at demonstrating and selling product, employees will now be grouped into multi-functional teams prepared to support InterClean’s high-quality products with high-quality service (University of Phoenix, 2005). New training will be required in order to facilitate InterClean’s new service focus (University of Phoenix, 2005). A major priority of InterClean is to assure retention of our top employees during and after this merger.
