Case Study: New Belgium Brewing

New Belgium Brewery has the leadership capabilities and drive to successfully make it through a transition of increasing sustainability. To make it through the change of a more sustainable manufacturing process the company had to stay focused on their employees and their core values and beliefs. Through the beginning of the company and through the change of sustainability, the teamwork and leadership helped shape the company into what it is today. New Belgium Brewery began as Jeff Lebesch travelled through European villages on his bicycle looking for inspiration and ingredients for a unique beer. He concocted two beers; a brown dubbel called Abbey and the other was an amber called the Fat Tire (History and Core Values and Beliefs, n.d.). Jeff’s wife Kim Jordan also had a hand in the involvement of the brew. She was the CEO, bottler, sales rep, distributor, and financial planner until she handed the role to Christine Perich in 2015 (History and Core Values and Beliefs, n.d.). The label from the Fat Tore was originally created by Ann Fitch, an artist and neighbor to Jeff and Kim, but was later replaced by the photography of Leah Giberson (History and Core Values and Beliefs, n.d.). In 1996 Peter Bouckaert was added as Brewmaster and helped in the development of the sour beers (History and Core Values and Beliefs, n.d.). Though Jeff moved on to other interests in 2009, Kim Jordan and Peter Bouchaaert kept the company going with their team of employee-owners (History and Core Values and Beliefs, n.d.).
