Question 1:

After meeting his tutor, Petro’s understanding of the essence of literature review and his approach to conducting it changed drastically. Initially, Petro was not relying on academic credible sources, rather on popular search engines, such as Google, and on photocopies form some random books. This has led him to huge amount of data that was not necessarily reliable or relevant to his topic. Petro was also conducting his research basically by relying on his previous work experience ignoring the fact that the nature of issues faced in the past may differ from those that should be tackled in his research project. Now, Petro understands that conducting a proper literature review needs to be done using various reliable and academic sources of data such as journals and books to improve the subject knowledge. Moreover, he learned that a proper literature review should summarize the different views published about the topic and those views should be properly referenced to avoid plagiarism.

Question 2:

While doing the literature review, Petro learned where to search for credible articles and how to skim through them to find out the relevant ones. Reading attentively a number of papers and texts allowed him to identify the different parameters that are essential to his research topic and to make sure that he is not repeating or copying a work which has already been done. He also acquired the skills to systematically analyze the gathered data and assess its relevance and sufficiency. Finally he became aware that academic literature provides a theoretical framework and potential explanations for his work experiences.

Question 3:

Petro has not planned his research ahead of time rather he started a random search on “national cultures”. This has left him with huge amount of information that is difficult to analyze and summarize.
