Dental Health of the Menopausal Patient
Goal of instruction: To educate dental hygiene students on the menopausal patient.
Intended audience: Dental Hygiene students
Objectives
Cognitive:
1. Given a thorough medical history, the student should be able to formulate 4-6 key questions to gather more facts about the patients existing health by referring to the information discussed during lecture.
2. In the clinical setting, the dental hygiene student will be able to explain to their patient the increased risk of periodontal disease in postmenopausal women, as discussed in the power point lecture.
3. In the clinical setting, the dental hygiene student will design a treatment plan specific to their menopausal patients needs, based on information obtained from the power point lecture and a through periodontal examination.
4. In the clinical setting, the dental hygiene student will be able to explain to their patient the value of using products with Xylitol, as discussed in power point lecture.
Psychomotor:
1. After a lecture and several case studies on how menopause affects the oral health, a student will be able to list the different manifestations and conditions as discussed in the coursework.
Affective:
1. After a thorough periodontal exam the student will be able to share the information gathered in a professional manner.

Quadrant 1
R: I will share with the dental hygiene students a clinical experience involving the care of a menopausal patient.
L: Allow students to comment on or ask questions about the clinical experience that I have shared with them.
