The story “Journey” by Joyce Carol Oates and the poem “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost are similar because in both , it mentions life as a road. Both stories have the same meaning, that life if hard, and sometimes your better off taking the road less traveled on.

In both, the road that is much smaller and not taken very often is traveled upon and has made a significant difference. It has effected the life of the person on that road. In “Journey,” the road gets more and more narrower as the person progresses on the road. Also, in “The Road Not Taken,” the person takes the smaller, more narrow road, to continue his journey. In each story, as the person prgresses on the road they have chosen, the scenery starts to change. The course of the road begins to be more and more difficult to travel on. In “Journey,” the road gets so difficult to travel on that the person must get out of the car, and walk. In both stories, the person stops at one point, and contemplates if they have made the right choice. They felt that if they had taken the easiest road, or the one that was more traveled on, that they would be better off. At the end of each story the person who has traveled on the road feels no regret, and is happy with where he/she has ended up. In both stories, the person feels that they ‘are not lost.’

Both, “Journey,” and “The Road Not Taken,” are similar. Both stories gets the point across to the reader, that life is hard, and you will face many difficulties, but sometimes you are better off taking the road less traveled on.
