Background of Malware

Malware is created with an intention to spy or steal information without owner’s permission. Over the years, there has been an increase of malwares attacks in both of the e-commerce and telecommunication sector. One of the common reasons why cybercriminal create malware was to steal personal data from users. Hence, in order to safeguard important information to be stolen, several anti-malware solutions were introduced.

Types of malwares

There are different types of malware such as Virus, Worms, Trojans, Spyware, Bots, Cookies, Keyloggers, most Rootkits and other malicious and unwanted software or program.

▪ The surge in number of malware from 2007 to 2008: This might be due to the hackers being able to discover the vulnerabilities of windows and then exploiting them. In addition, there has been a hyped interest in using malware for profit purposes such as forced advertising.

Apart from being as vulnerable as Web browser, Smartphone stores vital personal and corporate information such as client contacts, payment data and user GPS location which interest cybercriminal. Also, there is an increased in Smartphone usage and popularity in the society despite of little Smartphone security protect information. In additional, the fact that it is easier to create malware in Smartphone then web browser attracted cybercriminals.
