REGRESSION MODEL TO PREDICT NBA PLAYERS SALARIES

Abstract

Based on a lot of past researches, the salary in National Basketball Association is dictated by

both individual attributes and on-court performances. Some work has been done to regress

salaries in the NBA on variables, for example, number of steals per game, blocks per game,

points per game, and so on. In Matthew Week's work, points per game gets the most

consideration. In my paper I present the on-court performance, personal characteristics and

salary. Then I build a connection between them and ran linear regression to analyze the

determinants of salary. Regression tells us what variables are the determinants of expected

salary, and which sort of performance is more essential. Data from the NBA website for the

Season 2015 – 2016 uncover that assists per game, rebounds per game, games played, and other

attributes have statistically significant effect on player's salaries.
