Topic: Teen Violence: Why are Teens so Angry?

The Bahamas has a population of some three hundred thousand people; it also has the highest incarceration rate in the Caribbean and the eleventh of two hundred countries and territories in the world prison list. With thirty- three murders already recorded only six months in 2009 crime is now becoming a vexing problem involving more and more younger persons between the ages of fourteen and twenty eight. The recent stabbing in Bahamian schools indicates that Bahamian youths are being heavily influenced by violence. In most cases the problem stems from a lack of good firm family background where these children should have been taught the true values of life, the teaching of God and how to respect the lives and rights of others. The harsh violent crimes committed by Bahamian youths have no doubt shock and stunned the nation.

On April 14th, 2005 the cries of a distraught mother echoed in the air, like smoke gushing out of a burning building the mother of (15) fifteen Alando Williamson a C.V.Bethel student uttered the words “My Child, My Child, why”? After her son had been violently stabbed to death by fellow classmates who were the same age as her son, tears ran down her blood shun eyes like a rainfall after a heavy rain. Her child had been stabbed to death like a scene directly out of a movie. Another teenager snuffled out by violence. While there may seem to be only one victim in this anecdote, there are much more. You may say that the person who stabbed him is the real criminal, but the real criminal believe it or not is in our homes, in our cars and on our computers, in the form of the media. Why are teens so violent? The media.

There is no question as to the vast amount of shows, cartoons, comedies and other television programs and contain violent acts. It is difficult to watch any movie without seeing some form of violent in it....
