INTRODUCTION AND WELCOME

Dear Student

We hope that you have enjoyed your studies in Organisational Communication so far.

This tutorial letter specifically focuses on preparing you for the April 2015 examination portfolio.

You will receive this tutorial letter before you have received tutorial letter 201 (providing feedback

on assignments). Do not be alarmed. The reason why we send out this tutorial letter now is to

make sure that you have enough time to prepare for, and execute your portfolio.

Should you receive a supplementary, aegrotat, deferred, or any other examination, other than the

one directly ahead, please contact the lecturers to find out about any changes to the portfolio

examination that you would have to submit.

Read through this tutorial letter completely before you attempt or finalise your portfolio. You might

also have a look at the section in Tutorial Letter CMNALLE/301 that deals with portfolio

examinations.

GENERAL INFORMATION

COM2601 has always been a „traditional‟, venue-based examination module, where students were

expected to memorise the theoretical aspects presented in this module, and relay them back in an

examination as true as possible. Although this method of assessment is very successful in many

circumstances, we felt that a portfolio would be a better option for this module specifically. The

main reason for this is that we do not want to test students‟ memory (how well they can memorise

theoretical facts), but rather their knowledge and understanding of the work.
