Reflection of Democracy Now on September 19th

Refugee problem with Islamophobia

The news that Donald Trump's son tweeted "if I had a bowl of skittles and I told you just three would kill you, would you take a handful? That's our Syrian refugee problem." Which has aroused controversy. Some people thought this analogy is inappropriate, a refugee is people but skittles are candy, so they treat this humor as the implication of discrimination. And they thought the analogy is totally wrong because of the risk of inviting refugees to the United States is small rather than deadly (Leslie, 2016). The number of refugees is staggering which has reached 21.3 million, most of them are from Somalia, Afghanistan, and Syria. Last year, aiming at the Syrian refugees, Trump said that letting refugees in would make the US vulnerable, he even compared them as snakes. In the speech of election, Trumps had proposed use "Racial Profiling" to fight the crimes. As for dealing with the immigration and refugee problems he suggested to use strong measures, he even called for "a ban on the Muslim immigration".

Associating with the gunshot events on June 12th in Orlando, Florida, which has killed 49 people and wounded 53 people. The perpetrator, Omar Mateen is a Muslim. This incident is regarded as an act of terror which has enhanced the Islamophobia and resistance towards Muslims in America. However, the officials of governments and the community leaders have made a lot of effort to separate the extremist from regular Muslims, it cannot calm down the social islamophobia.

In this selection, the Muslims and Islam become the frequent topics. In order to attract conservative voters and strike the democratic party who tend to protect the vulnerable people. Donald Trump who present the Republic party even proposed the ban of Muslims to the US. Due...
