Business Communication Trends

Communication in business is the most essential key to running a successful company. Without the ability to communicate with employees, customers, and other agencies a business would not need to be in service. In previous times, business communication surrounded the telephone, and postal mail. Many trends have changed over the recent years. The technological trends in business such as e-mail, blackberries, video conferencing, and teleconferencing assist companies creating atmosphere’s that fulfill the need for globalization, the family-work struggle, and the rapid rate of change (Locker & Kienzler, 2008).

Flexibility

These types of business communication aid in the daily management of my activities. It has become convenient to conduct business from other places and not just my desk.

In my previous job, I had the opportunity to work from home after the birth of my daughter. I was able to log into our network from home and do my job. I could email other government agencies, pull reports from our consumer tracking software and submit my work to my boss, all while staying home with my new child. That type of experience created the attitude to do the best work that I could for my agency and to do my job with the best of intentions. An atmosphere that can create a less stressful life on an employee creates company loyalty and better work results.

Balancing Work and Family

This type of technology that allows one to work from anywhere at any time, can also have an opposite effect. If an individual employee is on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, it can create too much stress on that individual and potentially could cause the employee to have work overload and to do less than satisfactory work.

My brother is the regional coordinator in our area for an oil field company and I have seen what the stress of being on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week has done for him and his family.
