The Death Penalty

Criminals should be sentenced with the punishment they deserve after committing any sort of crime. This may vary from community hours to life sentences in jail. Whatever the crime, laws are in place to prevent people from breaking laws or to punish those who have committed sin. However, the death penalty is not an effective method of punishment. It is not an effective method of punishment as the cost of death penalty is extremely high and this money should be used for a better cause. Another reason would be that criminals will not have time to reflect on what they have done wrong. Also they will not be given a chance to learn from their mistakes and wrongdoings.

Not many people know that a death penalty actually costs a huge sum of money. The cost for a death penalty is extremely high and this money should not be wasted in order to execute a criminal, but instead used for other purposes. Costs are high, as long and complex judicial process is required in order to prevent someone innocent from being executed. In Kansas, it is stated that the median cost for a death penalty case is $1.26 million while the median for a non death penalty case is $740,000. Which is a shocking 70% more. In Maryland, death penalty cases cost 3 times more or $3 million for a single case. In California, this system costs $137 million per year however would only cast $11.5 million for a system without the death penalty. As you can see from above the cost for the death penalty is extremely high and not necessary. By eliminating this system with the money saved it can be used for better purposes including health care, education, police officers and public safety programs, drug and alcohol treatment, and many more.

Besides the fact that the death penalty cost a lot to maintain, criminals will have no time to reflect on themselves. Criminals will be executed while still having the
