WORLD WAR II

Ang World War II o ang Pangalawang Digmaang Pandaigdig ay isang digmaan sa pagitan ng 30 na bansa. Nagsimula ito ng taong 1939, nagtaggal ito ng anim na taon, at natapos rin ang digmaang ito sa taon na 1945. Kabilang ang Holocaust at ang pagbomba sa Hiroshima at Nagasaki sa mga kaganapan na nangyari sa Pangalawang Digmaang Pandaigdig. Tinatayang halos 50 milyon- 85 milyon ang nawasak o namatay dahil sa digmaang ito.

Nabuo ang dalawang magkasalungat na grupo: ang Allies at ang Axis Powers. Pinamumunuan ni Adolf Hitler ang Axis Powers kasama ang mga bansang Italy at Japan. Ang Allies naman ay ang mga bansa na sumasalungat sa mga paniniwala ng Axis Powers.

“The word “Holocaust,” from the Greek words “holos” (whole) and “kaustos” (burned), was historically used to describe a sacrificial offering burned on an altar. Since 1945, the word has taken on a new and horrible meaning: the mass murder of some 6 million European Jews as well as members of some other persecuted groups, such as Gypsies and homosexuals by the German Nazi regime during the Second World War.
