Abstract:

The purpose of the current study is to examine and enlighten on the issue of discrimination based on race and community in India with a special case study on discrimination against people from the North-East region. Statistical data of discrimination cases have been collected from the major cities for studying the past and current trends. Suggestive points have been highlighted to help do away with the discrimination against north-east people.

INTRODUCTION

Discrimination is a clear reality in our society. Racial and communal discrimination has gradually become one of the major impacts and burdens all over the world. People suffer through discrimination because they have differences amongst one another.

Every second news is related to racial discrimination in any way whether we take an example of any foreign country or India itself.Within India, in the contemporary context, there is a vast variety of discrimination whether it is based on wealth, race, religion, culture or sex.

We can take the example of people from the North-East region of India suffering from such discriminations. It is a well known yet ill-treated issue. It is a fact that every person from the north-east faces a certain degree of discrimination or, at the least, a feeling of being alienated when they go to any other places or cities.

It is disheartening to learn that most of the discrimination cases go unnoticed, neglected or even suppressed from being further investigated. This implies that the general public...
