INTRODUCTION
We all desire those who seem to have the natural ability to enter an unfamiliar social situation and begin to engage others in conversation. The desire to be recognized, to feel important and appreciated is all- powerful. And the more important you make someone feel, the positively they will respond to you
OPENING STORY
A small restaurant sat on the side of a picturesque Ooty hill, half way between the cities of Bangalore and Mangalore. One night, a traveller checked in. “Where are u travelling to?” asked the restaurant keeper. “I‟m from Bangalore and am going to live in Mangalore ” replied the traveller. “Tell me, ” he continued, “what are the
people like who live in Mangalore?”
“Well-what were the people like in who live in Bangalore?” asked the restaurant keeper.
“They‟re terrible people!” exclaimed the traveller, “they‟re
uncaring, cold and distant.
They‟d never lift a finger to help anyone! That‟s why I left.” “Hmmmm….” muttered the restaurant keeper, “then you won‟t like living in Mangalore….the people there are exactly the same!” Disappointed at what the restaurant keeper had said, the traveller
retired to his room.
Later that night, another traveller checked in. “where are you travelling to? Asked the restaurant keeper” “I‟m from Mangalore and am going to live in Bangalore” replied the second traveller.
“Tell me,” he continued, “the people who live in Bangalore-
what are they like?”
“Well- what were the people like in Mangalore?” asked the restaurant keeper. “they‟re wonderful people!” exclaimed the traveller, “they‟re caring, warm, friendly and always helpful. I
was sad to leave.”
“Then you‟ll love living in Mangalore” said the restaurant keeper, “the people there are the same!”
