There is a possibility that viewers might abandon traditional television sets because live streaming, download-able movies and TV shows, as well as regular streamed shows are more accessible to people. In today's era compared to a couple decades ago people are on the go more which means less time to have in front of a television. With the advancement of technology we are able to download or watch shows and movies on devices such as PDA, cell phones, laptops, and ipods. Having said that, traditional television is still on top because the quality of streaming programming is still not of a high quality. Viewers are also becoming very savvy and how and where to spend their time watching popular shows. They are also wanting to save time, what I mean by this is the viewers know that in traditional television programming they are subjected to many advertisements which itself is time consuming and viewers want to maximize their entertainment time. The streaming videos don’t have as many advertisements as do traditional television programming. The effect will be a positive one for the viewers, at least for the foreseeable future. The cost for online programming is extremely low versus the current model of paying for cable television and having to be stuck, at least for some of the cable companies, tied to the traditional television schedule.

While watching a show on TV, a series of commercials will pop up every five minutes or so giving the viewer a lot to look at over the course of a 30 minute segment. With online streaming only one ad will show either at the beginning or one every 10 or 15 minutes. Which is a plus because a lot of viewers would rather turn toward a source such as online streaming over television because of less advertisements. If more and more viewers keep turning toward online media to view their shows then advertisers might convert online viewing into what television is, with a lot of ads cutting down on the view time of a show or movie.
