Public Schools vs. Private School - How Will You Choose?

When its time for your children to attend school, how will you choose between public and private schools? When sending your children to school your ultimate goal is to find a school that will meet your child’s needs. Since my children have attended both private and public schools, the private schools have proven to be the overall best academic choice for them. Having had first hand experience with both schools, it allowed me to compare the differences of each school system.

When deciding on whether public or private school is better for your child there are a few things to consider. Class size, admissions, curriculum and tuition are just to name a few. As we know private schools are portrayed to be good if not better for our children, for a number of reasons. The number one reason private schools are deemed better than public schools is because of smaller class sizes. Private schools can afford to keep class sizes small, therefore providing more frequent interaction and attention on the teacher-student level. Also, small classes allow the teachers to have a better sense of who your child is, and what his or her particular strengths and weaknesses are. Due to smaller class sizes, I have also found that students of private schools aren’t afraid to ask questions and participate in class, because they feel comfortable and close to their peers and teachers.

Unlike public schools, private schools are not obligated to accept every child, and in many private schools admission can become very competitive. Private schools tend to be more uniform due to the admission and selection process and the type of student that will apply to a private school based on its reputation.
