The Poor in Journalism

The poor are hardly ever reported on by journalists. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t stories that could be reported. And in the slim chance that those stories are published, it is because something extremely horrific has happened; otherwise they are overlooked. But poverty is a fact of life. It isn’t something that will go away just by not reporting on it. The poor are everywhere. Tragedies and blessings are happening to them daily; just as any other class in this world. However, the stories are not being covered by journalists. People in this world don’t want to see or read stories about the poor because it makes the situation all the more real. But if the people want the actual stories about the poor, they shouldn’t only be reading the stories that are reported. Rosenblatt’s contention that, “If one wants truth about the poor, one must look where the ball is not,” implies that people need to open their eyes about the poor in this world.

There are poor communities all over in this globe. Each city or town has a “poor area”. What’s sad is that they aren’t going away. In fact, these communities are constantly growing each and every day. According to the article, “Poverty is disorderly, anticlimactic and endless”. Poverty will never go away. It is something that will always be around, no matter how badly people try to rid the world of it. People are losing their jobs, houses, and cars on a daily basis. The money eventually runs out and they find themselves poor and out on the street to fend for themselves and their families. After hitting rock bottom, many people don’t recover. They end

up spending the rest of their lives living in poverty because either they have given up or they just can’t ever seem to get ahead in life again.
