Moral and ethical issues are a very core part life. We encounter ethical and moral issues from the early morning newspaper and television news until we go to bed at night. Issues like gay and lesbian rights, the rights of the homeless, abortion, and doctor-assisted suicide. Moral and ethical issues have no clear right or wrong answer. Some people believe that abortion and doctor-assisted suicide are immoral and unethical whereas others believe it is ethical and acceptable to do, either.
Ethics and Morals
Ethics is a set of moral principles that constrains us to be honest and aboveboard in our dealings with others (Trevino & Nelson, 2007). Ethics is our guidebook or handbook on what is or is not acceptable behavior. Another way to look at ethics is that just because something can be done does not mean it should be done. Ethics is not only an individual process but also a collective or group process as well.
Moral issues are those that involve a different belief system or type of belief or teaching. Wither that teaching is religious, familial, or educationally is not the point, the point is that morals issues are mainly those that can help or harm people or ourselves.
Differences in Personal and Business Ethics
Personal and business ethics are not separate and distinct issues. The only difference between Business and personal ethics issues should those issues that only involve the company or corporation. A business is a group of Individuals are the key component of any business so naturally it is individual ethics or lack of the same that is going to comprise the corporate world. The only difference between business and individual ethics is the scope or scale of the ramifications, for both good and bad, which result from business decisions.
