To Drill or Not to Drill? That Is the Question

With the recent disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, the question of whether off shore drilling should continue has become a very hot topic. There are many different opinions and, so far, not a lot of answers. I am of the opinion that there needs to be a safer and cleaner solution to this question. Being a lifelong resident of the Gulf Coast, the recent oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has made the issue of off shore drilling more important to me. Once something like this happens close to home, the outcome of it will really sink in. The Coastal states are really just beginning to recover from the devastating effects from Hurricane Katrina and now they are faced with the damage that has been caused by the oil spill. This recent tragedy has cost the jobs of so many who make their living off the waters of the Gulf, the fishermen. For years, this has been one of the main sources of incomes for many who live on the Coast. The seafood industry has been affected by this latest disaster. Certain waters on the Coast are opening back up for the fishing industry but what will the future affect be on certain types of seafood that is harvested there? The condition of our environment is getting worse every day. It is time to explore other avenues of energy that would be less damaging to our environment, or what is left of it.

With change comes resistance. There are many who believe that changing to cleaner forms of energy would kill our economy. This avenue needs to be explored before we make up our minds that oil and coal are the only way to go. The big corporations that are getting rich off of these forms of energy do not want to explore other avenues. They believe that the way things are now is how they should continue. Many people, politicians and oil corporations are against new forms of energy saying that it is too expensive. Every time that there is an oil spill, the economy and environment suffer. Clean up...
