Sensible Life Products (A)

Sensible Life Products (SLP) was founded by Sam DeAth on June 2006. Sam is also the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SLP. Sam has developed a botanical disinfectant called Benefect which is a disinfectant product that is non-toxic. Benefect is a revolutionary product because it is safe to humans and the environment unlike many other household disinfectant cleaners which are toxic that contains harmful chemicals such as ammonia, alcohol and chlorine. Benefect is produced from thyme oil which Sam’s mother created. With surprising results, Benefect worked as well as other conventional disinfectant.

Through this unique product, SLP has received many offers to purchase or license Benefect. Due to research and development and sales that are less than what SLP is spending, SLP is suffering from significant loss in revenue. Also, other top brand companies like Clorox are clearly making better marketing decisions. For example, Clorox spent one hundred million dollars in advertising in 2004. SLP does not have the funds to market their product like Clorox. In addition, SLP’s marketing team is not as experienced and also, they do not know exactly how to market Benefect. As a result, Sam is contemplating as to what to do with the future of Benefect and the company. Sam does not want to sell Benefect to any company because Sam actually wants his product to be used in regular homes, but Sam is afraid that if he makes a mistake, then the company that buys Benefect will disregard the product so that they can sell their own product. Also, it is mentioned that family is more important than the business, and this problem has taken its toll on Sam and he would like to spend more time with his family.

In this situation where Sam wants the product to be used across the country, and to spend more quality time with his family, selling or licensing Benefect to a different company is the wrong action. Selling or licensing the company will...
