"Methodism represents a branch of Protestant Christianity that traces its heritage back to John Wesley and his attempts to bring revival within the Church of England in the early 18th century C.E. Methodism holds many of the basic Protestant Christian beliefs, including the inspiration and authority of scripture for faith and practice, the doctrines of the Trinity and the divinity of Jesus, and the necessity of grace to save humans from the consequences of sin. The two sacraments of baptism and the Lord's Supper are also practiced. Wesley taught that Christians should strive to obtain holiness of life, which is called perfect love, with the assistance of the Holy Spirit. John Wesley was a priest in England but did not have a change in his religious life until May of 1738. After his death, his followers formed a new Protestant denomination, known as the Methodists." First United Methodist Church in Wewoka Oklahoma was established in1897. This church is in excellent condition, even though it is one of the oldest buildings in Wewoka. The First United Methodist Church is different from other churches because they go against the stereotypical type of a preacher. The stereotypical preacher is usually thought of as an older gentleman who has worked his way up through the church rankings. Their preacher is a woman and she is a younger woman at that.

Methodism is different from other religions because the worship they use are all used an equal amount, such as songs are used just as much as preaching and prayer is used just as much as community missions. However, Methodism is like the other Christian religions in terms of the history and beliefs. For example, all Christians believe that all humans are created from Adam and Eve, when Moses parted the Red Sea.
