Mainstreaming Should Be STOPPED!
Unbelievably mainstreaming special needs children into classrooms do occur within the educational system. Although it has been acknowledged that a child with special needs would require a different method of teaching skills than that of an average child, some people believe otherwise. Evidently, school systems seem to think that mainstreaming special needs children into regular classrooms will help the child. It is time for the parents and school board members to take a long, hard look at this issue and address the fact that what they are really doing in hindering the child even further. However, in some schools this is highly likely to happen, and the special needs child, the other students, and the teacher continue to suffer. To eliminate chaotic situations that can evolve for both, the other students and teachers, the board of education needs to ban mainstreaming special need children into classrooms.
First of all, special needs students disrupt classrooms. Some special needs students do unintentional things that does affect the classroom setting. When these types of children begin to get frustrated they tend to lash out on others. This causes a threatening situation to those who are around at the time whether it be another student or a teacher. There’s a problem when mainstreaming is worse for the people around and better for the disabled. Robert Berne asks the question, “Can the rest of the class function?(Leo)” Well if you ask the teachers who taught at a school in North Carolina and Oklahoma they would most likely say “NO.” A disabled, violent student in North Carolina broke her teacher’s arm in a classroom fray. A disabled Oklahoma student stabbed her teacher with a nail she had secreted into class (Goode). At some point the right to a chaos-free classroom should be taken into place.
